Will COP 23 lead to collective action?

November 6, 2017

The COP 23 conference started today in Bonn, one year after the election of Trump as U.S. president. Despite the decommitment from this latter, expectations are very high for national governments and other organizations to reach an agreement on the financing of climate targeted actions.  Climate justice will be key to negotiations. Climate challenges have shed the light over blatant inequalities, probably the same ones that were hampering development in some parts of the world...

We should expect more from this COP23 than figures and mechanisms...we should require real monitoring of progress towards the 1,5 degrees C. of global warming, and collective action towards solutions. We should not demand generosity for the sake of a few ones, but for the benefits of all. Civil society organizations, the private sector, national governments but also regions and cities should pave the way to reduce GHG emissions, and to tackle air and ocean pollution. We have the right to expect solutions, or at least part of it.
