Research assistant Fake News and Disinformation (Internship)

PILOT4DEV is an independent initiative that connects stakeholders involved in the areas of Sustainable Development, Social Inclusion and Resilience. We work in a very multi-disciplinary approach involving key topics such as Governance, Dialogue, Cities’ transformation, Civic and women’s rights, Peace and Stability, and the Sustainable development Goals.

We are currently offering a 6-month internship as Project Research Assistant to support the organisation.
Main missions:
- Identify Fake news on the war in Ukraine and Climate Change
- Support the drafting of a proposal on the freedom of speech
- Make a desk review of literature on Disinformation, AI and Fake News, as well as on the policies of the social media platforms of the European institutions.
- Organize interviews with key stakeholders in Brussels under the supervision of the director.
- Take note during the interviews and provide interviews transcriptions
- Supporting the work of the Director with the organisation, delivery and follow-up of the projects (activity reports);
- Assisting with desk-research and drafting research and analysis on topics related to the missions of Pilot4dev;
- Contributing to the creation of program material for our meetings, publishing preparation, and article requests;
- Assistance with the organization of webinars, events, study visits, trainings and calls;
- Supporting the communication activities of the organisation including with the website and the social media;
- Creating and maintaining up-to-date databases (e.g. entering data, creating mailing lists).
Required profile:
- Current student in a related field in their last year student placement (European Studies / Security/ Media/Communication/ International Relations / Environmental sciences/ Resilience/ Climate/ Development/ Humanitarian Aid/ Research …);
- Savvy with websites and social media
- Knowledge of the EU institutions and of EU decision-making;
- Enthusiasm for EU policy making and projects and a willingness to learn;
- A keen interest in the topic of fake news and disinformation
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google analytics ), familiarity with Zoom, Canva; ChatGPT and others
- Fluent English, good knowledge of French and or other EU language is an asset;
- Good organisational skills and time management;
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work in an international environment.
Conditions:
The internship is not paid but the intern will receive an allowance of 250 Euros a month. The applicant must be registered in a university.
The internship is for a six-month period and based in Brussels starting at the latest in September 2025. The intern can use the shared offices at Tour and Taxi up to 10 days a month. In addition to this, the intern could take part in some of the project missions.
